Surprises gone Wrong

My head is still reeling from the weekend I just had. I have so much to tell you guys that I know I can;t do it in one post so you are going to get multiple. Today we are going to disect surprises gone wrong.

When I turned on my computer wednesday morning, I got the most bestest email ever. Thursday the 11th of november was St. Maarten day. Friday was supposed to be a normal work day but the good people of the isalnd government decided to give government workers the day of on friday. Well, people normally I would jump a mile high but this time I knew it only meant more work for me. See, the pilot census is from 13th to 21st so someone has to take care of the weekend calls and that person can only be me.
While everyone was busy making weekend plans, I just sat there doing my thing. Until a little devil whispered in my ear: there is something like call frowarding. Does it really make a difference if you are physically on the island?
Slowly my face lit up with a great big smile. I picked up the phone and called my friend: "I'm coming! Tell Shaggy I'll be there".
See, Shaggys concert was on the 13th of November back in Curacao. My nephews 5th birthday was on the 13th as well. Now I can go to both!
While I was talking I decided I was going to surprise my sister when I just showed up at her work place. So I called my dad and told him to come pick me up but not to tell anyone else. Not even my mother.
I arrived on thursday as planned, got in the car and headed to my sisters. I pulled up outside her work only to find her waiting for me at the door. What the hell happened.
"Dad," I sad accusingly, "why did you tell Mom?"
He denied everything. But I knew he had told a few people so I wouldn't let it go.
"Must be one of those people you told. I knew you can't keep a secret! I told you not to tell anyone and you went and told people." Only thing missing from my tirade was a wagging finger but the cocked hip was definitely there.
I called my Mom but she wouldn't say who told her. The more she kept quiet, the more I suspected my Dad from keeping up the pillow talk. He had told my aunt who lives right enxt to my sister. She must have said something while hanging up the laundry.
"Mom, tell me. Who told you I was coming?" I asked one last time.
"It came from your own side". she finally told me.
My own side???? Who can that possible be? I only told my friend and she won't tell. She would never tell a secret if she knew it was a secret.
Unless she doesn't know I changed the rules of the secret.
What had happened was that when I first made my plans, it was supposed to only be a secret from my sister. During the conversations with my dad, it became a secret from my sister AND my mom. But I never went back to the original co-conspirator.
Lesson learnt, a secret is only for two if everyone knows the ground rules.
