Catching Flies in Open Mouths

Carnival is always end of April in St. Maarten. People have me believe that once you experience Carnival here, you won't want to miss it ever again. Carnival in Curacao .... naaaaahhh they all exclaim. Too many clothes and boring music. Now, you all know I love my little rock so of course that is not a good way to start with me. I LOVE Carnival time in Curacao. Months of preparation, the music, the parties, jump-ins and all kinds of craziness. All of this right after New year celebrations. Notice how I emphasize the months. This is of course exaggerated as Carnival all depends on Easter. But we always have at least a month. Not in St. Maarten. In St. Maarten it is always end of April and maybe two weeks ... ok three weeks at most. This year, lucky me, got to experience it for 1 week. Actually for one day because for most of it I was in Curacao. So I'll tell you about the things that I got to experience: the jump-ups.
The jump-ups. I saw two of them and I will probably keep going back for more. Not because of the amazing experience but just like nosy onlookers always stop to watch a car accident. That is exactly why I keep going back. My apologies beforehand but I was too busy looking to take pictures. I must have swallowed like a dozen flies because I couldn't get my mouth to close.
Children jumping in the smallest bikinis they can find. Children wearing booty shorts and bikini tops. Children dancing things even I wouldn't dare do. What they do is grab the girl from behind. And I mean literally grab because I didn't see any of them asking. In fact I saw one girl getting out of the jump-up to talk to someone on the sideline, a little boy about 6 inches shorter than her decided that was not a good idea so he went after her and punished her. Yes, punished her. He grabbed her shoved her face to the ground and slam-humped her. I can't think of a better way to describe that. Children of around 12. I saw smaller ones but my brain is trying real hard to block those images.
Yesterday it was the closing ceremony jump-up. Same things I saw before but with more people. And what shocked me the most. This time the girl jumped on the guy. The guy was holding her up supporting her legs on his arms, the girl facing him and humping. All I saw where her little legs bouncing on his back. Lawd have mercy. What the hell!!!!!!

I added a new item to the list. Take pictures with 10 celebrities. Celebrity 10: Las t Friday we went to Jamie's new restaurant in Covent Garden. Standing there looking at the menu, I saw Gennaro. I've seen him on Saturday Kitchen before and remembered him because he said he didn't cook with olive oil; he only uses it for salads because it burns faster. Or so I remembered. After a lot of whispering I finally decided to approach him. So I asked him if he was the chef on Saturday Kitchen and if he was the one who doesn't cook with olive oil. He said No! I think that chef should be shot. I'm Italian and all Italians cook with olive oil, he says. He spoke with us for awhile and then moved on. The Life of a Celebrity

I made the papers. Not once ... but twice! Yes y'all, my name and picture are in the newspapers and I didn't even have to commit a crime for it. All I had to do is my job. Alone in the Office ...

Sitting alone in the office makes my mind wander. Maybe I have an active imagination, maybe have read too many books, maybe I have watched too much internet entertainment. I'm here working late, got to be ready for the holidays, right? Everyone has already gone home, Christmas shopping or just out having fun. Me? I am here enjoying some Ne-Yo ... One in a miiilllion parapapa. That boy is good. Even my Miss Independent self got to admit that he does make me go ooooohhh haaaaaa. Sitting alone in the office makes my mind wander. I start to think about hunky cleaners coming in after hours or an IT geek working long hours not realizing there is another person in the building. He makes himself comfortable .... really comfortable. See the air-conditioning can get very cold if you have been sitting in it for hours. I can understand that one might turn it off ... and then it gets to be sweltering hot. If you are wearing a suit and tie, you get hot. Really hot. Oh! Don't you know it .....
